One of Global Evento’s many strengths is our ability to work internationally – it’s even part of our name!
We pride ourselves on being able to source gifts from all over the world, host events wherever you can imagine and ship gifts to recipients no matter what country they call home. We have hosted events on 6 continents and in over 20 countries!
While this is a whole team effort, one of the main people who makes it all possible is our Director of Warehousing and Logistics, Nate Hollensteiner. A large part of Nate’s role is working with transportation and shipping companies to get products from one country to another. With each country having their own customs requirements, there are a lot of moving pieces to manage in order to ensure your gifts arrive safely and on time.
Check out some of Nate’s tips for an International Program below and when you’re ready to learn more about how Global Evento can assist with your next international program, schedule your free consultation!
Nate’s Top 5 Tips for International Programs:
1. Do Your Research: Always verify if the items you intend to ship are restricted in the destination country. You might be surprised by certain countries’ regulations!
2. Give Yourself Plenty of Time to Prepare: International shipments require substantial planning. Ensure you allocate ample time to research and prepare the necessary documentation and for the items to clear customs.
3. Confirm Recipient Contact Information: Accurate contact details for the recipient are essential. Customs authorities often need to reach out to them so double check that your information is correct to avoid delays.
4. Use Your Resources: Leverage the resources provided by your shipping partners. They offer valuable tools and knowledge that can help navigate and prepare for potential challenges.
5. Don’t Forget About Duties and Taxes: Be aware that nearly all countries impose duties and taxes. A good general estimate is around 35% of the shipment’s value. For instance, a shipment valued at $100 could incur approximately $35 in duties and taxes.
Always remember, international shipping differs significantly from domestic shipping as it involves bringing goods into another country. This means dealing not only with the shipping company but also with a foreign government. There is a lot to keep track of, but the team at Global Evento is here to help and happy to handle all of your international shipping needs!
